LibreCAD is a free computer aided design application which is compatible over OS X, Linux, Windows and Unix operating systems. Tailor made for 2D applications, LibreCAD was developed out of a fork of QCad Community Edition. Its GUI is based on Qt4 libraries thus helping the program in running over several platforms with equal ease. It becomes easier for users having experience of similar commercial CAD application to handle concepts which are analogous to AutoCAD. The AutoCAD DXF file format is used internally by LibreCAD for saving and importing files and allowing export to varying file formats. This open source and fully comprehensive application might seem a bit cluttered initially but is bound to seem easier with continued usage.
The interface comes with a menu bar containing an array of buttons which aid in adding the elements easily. A number of panes are also existent for you to view your on-going project status. LibreCAD comes with plenty of drawing and editing options including the ability of drawing points, lines, ellipses, circles, polylines, splines and text boxes. You can also zoom, move, align, rotate, scale, mirror and trim elements with much ease. Text can be lengthened, divided, bevelled, stretched, deleted and exploded into lettering which can surely live up to your 2D CAD functionalities.
